Moving
with Children
There’s nothing worse for a parent who’s
being transferred than an upset child who doesn’t want to leave home.
Believe me, I’ve been there. And, it’s not unusual to see some
regression in smaller children – after all, they are often leaving the
only home they’ve known.
No matter how old or young, a move is as
major an event in your child’s life as it is in yours. However, it can
also be an adventure for children too - it just takes some patience and
guidance.
I’ll give you my best counsel and will be
there to help every step of the way. What I have found works best is to
involve the children as much as you can and to make it a family project.
There’s also the internet.
I’ve put children in touch with children at
their new school before they arrive through the web – this is a great
way to make them feel at ease. I’ve also taken pictures of their new
school and started a web scrap book of sorts for them that catalogues
their move. There are all sorts of ways to engage your child in a
meaningful and happy way.
You’ll find below a list of good books and
resources to use as well. Again, I will help you as much as you wish –
it’s entirely up to you.
Book
Suggestions
I’ve done some checking
around for you and thought that the
books here could be of help. Of
course, you can always go to your
local library where the Research
Librarian there can be a tremendous
resource.
You’ll find a few books for parents at the beginning and then books
for children. All of these can be ordered from
Amazon or from
Barnes & Noble.
You can also visit your local bookstore where you’ll get personalized
service and might find more options.
