The week after Memorial Day Weekend doesn't normally have a lot of antique and craft fairs.  It's also a time when most of our live local theaters are ending their season or have already.  The only one still going on is 39 Steps at Bergen County Players which concludes with this weekend's performances.

AND I'm wondering if there isn't a lot of tinkering done with the websites I depend on becasue they were hardly working in some cases.  As a result, I'm terribly late with this.  This is what I have for you - 

Grateful Dead Friday Night 
Friday night come to Crystal Lake Community Beach in Oakland (61 Lakeshore Dr) for a Grateful Dead concert by Reflections, the tribute band.  It opens at 6:30 with the concert starting at 7:30 and going on until 11.  Because you'll be on a beach, bring beach chairs, your cooler with food and drinks plus anything else you need.  Tickets are a bargain - only $20 for 2 1/2 hour concert.  Purchase tickets online.; lake members are free.

The Hermitage Plant Sale
It's time for the Annual Plant Sale at The Hermitage in Ho-Ho-Kus (335 N Franklin Turnpike).  You'll find house plants, herbs, shrubs, annuals and perennials there.  Everything for sale is truly beautiful and there will be people on hand to give you all sorts of help and advice.  This happens on Friday and Saturday 9-2.  All proceeds go towards the upkeep of The Hermitage, one of Bergen County's beautiful historic sites.  

Classic Car Show
Mill Gardens Assisted Living Residence in Midland Park (36 Faner Rd) is the location for a classic car show on Saturday.  Like their other car shows, there will be music, food, a raffle and loads of gorgeous classic cars.  It opens at 9:30 and runs until 3.

Every Day is Earth Day in Ridgefield Park
The Ridgefield Park Environmental Commission is having their fabulous Every Day is Earth Day festival this Saturday 10-3 at the Ridgefield Park DPW grounds (24 Industrial Ave).  There is a series of programs all day about snakes, bats, raptors and science.  So many additional exihibits and animals will be there that I'm not sure you'll have enough time to see everything.  Click on the link above for specifics.  This always brings in thousands because it's such a big event and so well done.  There's even fishing and face painting too.
 
Tio Live at HACPAC
Unfortunately this very funny one man show Saturday night sold out nearly immediately online.  You might want to call HACPAC at 201-820-3007 to see if there are any tickets available at the door.    

Arbor Day Festival at Thielke Arboretum
Thielke Arboretum in Glen Rock (360 Doremus Ave) is a wonderful 16 acres of natural beauty.  It's also a very active group of volunteers who put out wonderful programs all year round.  Saturday 10-3 is the date for their annual Arbor Day Festival.  While this is great for all ages, it's especially terrific for the younger set who will learn a lot about trees and their importance to our environment in a fun way.  Be sure to click on the link for all the details.    

Bergen Town Center Artisan Market
Over 25 crafts people will be at the Bergen Town Center Artisan Market this Saturday from 12 noon to 7 pm.  The Artisan Market has become so very popular because you'll find beautiful handcrafted items you can use in your home or as gifts.  The variety is wider than you'd expect.  Location in the mall is Center Court near Kohls.  

What On Earth Is A Blue Moon?
So what is a Blue Moon anyway?  May has 2 full moons because Mother Nature is putting things in order.  A moon's cycle is 29.5 days which means we're short several days each year.  Mother Nature aligns everything perfectly with a 2nd moon in May.  That 2nd moon is smaller than what you normally see and has a blueish cast to it.  Thus a Blue Moon is created.  Saturday's Blue Moon Fest at the Alpine Stateline Lookout (Palisades Interstate Parkway north between Exits 2 & 4) is an all day festival celebrating our 2nd moon this month.  This runs 10-4 and has exhibits, vendors, food and I think music.  This is a fun way to learn all about the Blue Moon and other scientific aspects.

Corgi Cup at the Meadowlands
English Corgi dogs are adorable pets with a big heart and a wonderful personality.  You may remember that Queen Elizabeth had several which she adored.  Saturday night is a Corgi only dog race - The Corgi Cup.  It's not too late to enter your Corgi so click on the link to do so.  Anyone can come to watch this too.; admission and parking are free.

Earthfest With Max ZT In Concert
The Ehtical Culture Society in Teaneck is having it's own take on Earth Day Saturday night - it's their Earthfest  With Max ZT In Concert.  It opens at 6 outside with everything you'd expect from a festival centered on the environment.  Then you go inside at 8 for a concert by Max ZT, an internationally renown and Grammy nominated hammered dulcimer musician.  Tickets for this online at $40 but it combines everything.

Fort Lee Historic Park 5k Race
This is part of a series of 5k races that trace and celebrate George Washington and the Continental Army as they made their way across New Jersey and across the Delaware River into Pennsylvania.  The 5k race and 1 mile walk, In The Footsteps of George Washington, still has registration open but it closes at noon on Friday.  The race starts from Fort Lee Historic Park on Sunday morning at 9:30 with registration opening at 8:30.  All you need to know and registering for the race is online.

Pinkster Hike to Greenbrook Falls
Sunday morning at 10 begins a 3 hour guided history hike on the Palisades.  This is a 4 mile hike so it's not suitable for young children or casual hikers.  The hike starts from the The Kearney House located at the Alpine Picnic Area.  This is free to the public - just come and it's a good idea to get there a few minutes early.  If you're worried about the weather, call 201-768-1360 and enter extension 6108 to confirm.

Hope you had a nice weekend in spite of the weather.  The only rain predicted for the coming weekend is light in the morning on Saturday.  

As for real estate, while mortgage rates are up a bit, it hasn't kept home buyers away.  Weekend turnouts for us at Weichert have been exactly what we've projected.  The market dynamics haven't changed significantly but how long a home is on the market has increased.  Bergen County months of inventory is at 2.76 months; last year at this time it was less than 2.  Still extremely quick however and prices continue to go up.  Not at the double digit rate of the past but up nonetheless.
