There are a lot of events missing because of the rain we're having.  At this time of year, almost everything is held outside.  I am very late with this as I sent messages to several groups asking if they are going to move their event indoors.  Check back during the week because I know I'll be updating this.

Towards the end of this month, many people are distracted by  the start of the school year.  They're busy getting ready.  While not everyone has a child, Bergen County has a lot of children because we're renown for our excellent local schools.  Add in the fact that so many are away on vacation this month and you really don't have tons going on.  With rain cancellations, there's not much.

The Taming of the Shrew is On For Wednesday Night 
The free Shakespeare In The Park comedy, The Taming of the Shrew, is still on Wednesday night.  They are bringing it inside.  Starts at 7:30.  Sorry for the late notice but this is a late notice for what's going on due to the rain.  If it's dry enough it will still be in the park next to HACPAC (102 State St in Hackensack).

The Hermitage Art & Craft Show
Saturday from 10 to 4 is the annual Hermitage Art & Craft Show.  This draws a very large crowd because it is filled with high quality handmade items.  Over 70 crafters and artists participate plus there's food vendors and tours of this historic house too.  Admision is $5 which goes towards the home's upkeep.  To make life easy, you can get your tickets online.

Saddle Brook Car Show
The  American Cruisers and Saddle Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corp are sponsoring a car show on Sunday.  This is their Custom & Classic Car Show which brings in a lot of gorgeous cars to see.  It's held at the Saddle Brook Municipal Building (55 Mayfair St) from 9 to 3.  There's music, food and drinks to buy, a 50/50 raffle and, of course, trophies.  Car shows are a lot of fun and this one is a good one.  Call the Municipal Building for more information (201-587-2900).  I'm hoping that weather predictions are right and the sun will be out all day.

Ridgewood Sale Days
This is one of the biggest sidewalk sales in Bergen County because Ridgewood has the most extensive busines district here.  No one has more retail shops and many are upscale.  So when Ridgewood puts on it's let's get everything sold sale, people come from all over.  I'm figuring this will still happen - shop owners will just not put things out in the rain.  I think that the outdoor festival on Saturday will be cancelled however.  Hours are 10-5.  Ridgewood has some of the finest restaurants here so plan on going out for a meal too.

Remarkable Raptors at the Tenafly Nature Center
The Tenafly Nature Center has a series of programs where you actually get to meet one of the animals they have up close.  You learn a lot about them in a very fun way. 

This Saturday from 10 to ll it's Remarkable Raptors  This is all about birds of prey and you'll get closer to one than you'd expect.  Both adults and children enjoy this although under 5 is not allowed.  Tickets are reasonable too - $8 members, $10 non members.  This can sell out so don't wait to get ticketed online.

Unfortunately butterfly feeding has to be cancelled again due to rain.  While it's on both Saturday and projected to be sunny Sunday, I expect to hear Tuesday if Sunday is on.

New Jersey Wine Festival at Demarest Farms
Demaest Farms is bringing back it's highly successful and very enjoyable wine tasting event.  Their New Jersey Wine Festival.  Held in the summer, guests can sample a wide variety of award winning wines from family owned NJ wineries.  This happens Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 5.  You'll find it by going down the home page; online ticketing is there too.  Tickets are less than $20 plus the Farm produce store will be open with all those fabulous home made pies and other things.
